Hey there, candle lovers! There's nothing quite like the cozy ambiance and sweet scents that candles bring to our homes. But as much as we love burning candles, it's important to know how to do it safely and properly to avoid any accidents or damage. In this post, I'll be sharing the do's and don'ts of burning candles and how to take care of them for a longer-lasting, safer candle-burning experience. The Do's of Burning Candles

1. Trim your wick

Before lighting your candle, it's important to trim the wick to ¼ inch. This will help prevent excessive smoke, soot, and mushrooming, which can shorten the life of your candle and even create a fire hazard.

2. Burn your candle for a minimum of 2 hours

When burning your candle for the first time, it's important to allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container to avoid tunneling. Tunneling occurs when the wax burns in a tunnel down the center of the candle, leaving a ring of unburned wax around the edges.

3. Burn your candle in a draft-free area

Burning your candle in a draft-free area will prevent the flame from flickering and creating uneven burn patterns. This will also prevent any wax from spilling out of the container and creating a fire hazard.

4. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle

Blowing out your candle can create smoke and even cause the wick to break off, making it difficult to relight the candle. Instead, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame, which will prevent any wax from spilling out of the container and create a safer candle-burning experience.

5. Store your candles in a cool, dry place

Storing your candles in a cool, dry place will prevent them from melting or warping. If you store your candles in a warm or humid environment, the wax may soften or melt, which can cause the wick to become misshapen and make the candle difficult to burn properly. The Don'ts of Burning Candles

6. Don't burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time

Burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time can cause the wick to become too long and create excessive smoke, soot, and mushrooming. This can shorten the life of your candle and even create a fire hazard.

7. Don't burn your candle near anything flammable

Always burn your candle on a heat-resistant surface and away from anything flammable, such as curtains, bedding, or books. This will prevent any accidental fires from occurring.

8. Don't leave your candle unattended

Never leave your candle unattended while it's burning. If you need to leave the room, make sure to extinguish the flame with a candle snuffer and never leave the candle burning near anything flammable.

9. Don't burn your candle all the way down to the bottom

When your candle has burned down to ¼ inch of wax, it's time to extinguish the flame. Burning your candle all the way down to the bottom can cause the container to overheat and even crack or break, which can create a fire hazard.

10. Don't use water to extinguish your candle

Using water to extinguish your candle can cause the wax to splatter and create a fire hazard. Instead, use a candle snuffer or lid to extinguish the flame. Investing in candle accessories such as wick trimmers, snuffers, and candle holders can help you burn your candles safely and properly. These accessories will also help prolong the life of your candles and create a beautiful candle-burning experience. Now that you know the do's and don'ts of burning candles and how to take care of them, you can enjoy a longer-lasting, safer candle-burning experience. Remember to always burn your candles in a draft-free area, trim your wicks, and never leave your candles unattended.
